M.A. in Rural Management and Gandhian Studies
A two years full time course, affiliated to Utkal University of Culture, with an annual intake capacity of 30 students. The Courses of studies among other areas also include Principles and Approaches to Rural Management and Gandhian Studies, Rural Social Structure, Managerial Economics and Rural Marketing, NGO Management and Project management etc.
Post-Graduate Diploma in Rural Management
This is a one year full time course with an annual intake capacity of 30 students.
- Study on Kharia and Kisan Tribe.
- The Department has engaged in short-term research projects mainly focusing on different rural issues : Rural Socio-Economic Structure, Rural Development Programmes like MGNREGA, NRHM etc.., Rural Banking and Micro-Finance Institutions, SHGs, Public Distribution Systems, Agriculture, Education, Rural Health, PRIs, Cooperatives, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Issues.
Seminars / Conferences / Workshops / Training Programmes Organised by the Department
- Seminar on “Population: Issues and Challenges” by Prof. Almas Ali, Population Foundation of India, New Delhi, on 15 September, 2012. He discussed about population characteristics, growth trend, demographic transition, causes of population explosion, population policy, birth rate and death rate, population growth causes and problems.
- Seminar on “Visionary Leaders for Social Change” by Varghese Alengaden, Director,Universal Solidarity Movement (USM), Indore on 13 October, 2012. A total of seventy staff and students participated in the seminar. The presentation focused on Gandhian ways to bring change in all, Quality leadership, Spirituality, Non-Violence, Caring and Sharing, Literate, Clean and Green India.
Presently there are 32 students in the two batches of M.A. in Rural Management and Gandhian Studies. The proportion of female and male students in these two batches is 90:10.More than 50% of the students belong to the weaker sections of the society.
The success rate of the students in the examination is 100%. Out of the 23 students who have appeared in the final year examination, fourteen have secured first division and the rest second division. Mr. Sanjeev Kullu of the Department has become the topper of the University Examination and will receive the gold medal for securing the first position with first class.
